Saab JA-37 Viggen
Aircraft Build
Special Hobby 1:72
Date
January 2023
The Saab Viggen first flew in 1967 and entered service with the Swedish Air Force in 1971, where it served until 2005. The JA-37 variant was an all weather fighter/interceptor and deliveries of this version started in 1979.
The Viggen's STOL capabilities enabled it to be operated from short runways, and could even use highway strips for take off and landing.
This is a build of Special Hobby's 1:72 kit and depicts Red 12 of Wing F16 (Upplands flygflottilj) based out of Uppsala in 1992, sporting the iconic Swedish splinter camouflage scheme.
I was lucky enough to sit in the cockpit of an AJ-37 version (ground attack/fighter) at the air museum near Gothenburg. And yes, I was the only adult in the queue.
This model won the "Highly Commended" award at the IPMS Scottish National Scale Model Show in April 2023.
